Motherboard selections......
I've done extensive searches about mobos that are recommended on the board and they all say the same thing....take your pick with Tyan...Supermicro or AsusMy current servers as some may have seen in past posts are basically not able to supply me with the satisfaction of a good night sleep and ability to keep my customers happy with a stable server. So I decided to cut my losses short so if can get some sleep at night...not that I sleep anyway. The current servers I got are raid 1, ide drives, 1 gig sdram, dual p3 1 ghz, 60 gig x 2, hot swap
I found interpromicro.com (used them before) and qsol.com, They both have either tyan 2505 (qsol and interpro) or supermicro P3TDDE boards (interpro), The reason both stick out is because both have raid 1 on board and from my understanding both have built in raid 0/1. I see the Tyan 2505 is a very popular option with companies like the 2 above and other companies like racksaver...
Im likely looking at identical config's for both servers with:
Dual P3 1 Ghz
1 gig ram (ECC)
hot swap
raid 1
80 x 2 ide drives
But from what I hear, the 2505 doesn't have 7.2 support for raid drivers, in which case I will likely revert to 7.1 or even 6.2 when I move the customers from server to server. Each server will have 300-400 "low resource customers" I seen that one review about the Tyan 2505 that had the same symptoms I have, nic just stops responding to requests and freezes the machine...what I just don't want to do is move the 400 customers then find out that the server that I got now, has the same or even more problems then I had before....
Right now both my servers loads are under 1.0 unless the nightly backup kicks in where the servers will kick to 2.0 or 3.0 until the backups are completed......Honestly, I am looking for dependability and reliability, I am constantly waking up 2-3-4-5am to reboot my 2 machines (they simply freeze, likely due to the nics that they have - see other posts started by me)
Does anyone have any suggestions on either motherboard or another configuration you can think of?
Thanks to everyone in advance
