Scsi U2w Raid
Im going to be buying some RAID kit soon for my mailserver.
The thread about that is below somewhere in these forums.
The hardware I want;
1x Adaptec 131U2 Single Channel RAID Card (Ultra 2 Wide)
2x Fujitsu 18.2GB 68pin (Ultra160)
Will I be able to use a standard U160 drive with a slower controller, e.g. Ultra 2 Wide ?
I have used Narrow (50pin) Ultra Fast SCSI drives with standard ISA SCSI controllers.....
Would I need to check if it is backward compatible or would it work perfectly.
Anything I should know when I install the Adaptec 131U2 RAID Card ?? I will be using RAID 1 w/ 2x drives. I want to install a clean OS (win2k server), 2 partitions. One for boot and the other for all the customer files etc.....
Would I setup RAID first then format the drives (as one drive) and then use the win2k installer to partion as I would do with a normal IDE or SCSI setup ??
Does anyone in the UK have on of these 131U2W RAID controllers for sale ? If you do email me ! Ta

With IDE RAID, can you hot swap a drive, say in a RAID 1 environment without screwing stuff up ??
