One site - Multiple Servers

Does anyone here have any experience with the same site on multiple servers in different datacenters around the world? Just looking at ways to get around DOS attacks on nodes etc.

So the DNS setup for that domain name would be ns1, ns2 [server1], ns3 and ns4 [server2] etc. I'm wondering if ns1 is always pulled first or whether ns3 or ns4 could get the call depending on location etc. Of course this is only for static html pages with no database components etc.
