Can no longer run some EXE installers...
Starting today, it appears that I can no longer run specific exe installers. No errors, no action, nothing, nada. I was wanting to reinstall/install some office 97 components, but the installer refuses to run. So I checked the installer on the disk, still nothing. Then I checked various other app installers and they also failed to run. There seems to be some that I can run, and others I cant. All my machine does is display the hourglass for a split second, then nothing. All my other machines (running win2k also) can run all these installers just fine.Nothing was installed since this crap started happeneing.
I have the "Dependency Walker" tool that lists all the functions and DLLs that an executible 32bit file requires. For all installers I have problems with, I get the following error... "No PE signature found. This file is not a valid Win32 module". Oddly enough, I get the list on the other working machines, and they work just fine.
I did a google and found jack **** about this issue with 0 (zero) fixes. I'm getting royally pissed at all these "rare" issues I've been seeing with win2k. Has anyone even encountered this issue and have had a fix minus reformatting?
