How to monitor an MMS stream?

Basically I have quite a few streaming servers that are constantly broadcasting a source (not VOD, live streaming)

I was wondering if anyone knew of an application that can monitor whether or not an MMS stream is running and if not shoot off an email.

Obviously GPL, freeware is preffered but, I'm not afraid of spending money when warrented.
