Need advice on Load balance

Hi, I bought a server from FDC.

Its a 2.8GHz AMD Sempron with 2gb RAM and 400gb HDD.

A few proxies running on the server as well a couple sites.

Sometimes the load went high and I think it was because of my proxies.

So, I'm thinking about load balancing.

Can you suggest me what is the cost effective way to do that?

Can a dedi and vps be used to load balance? (hybrid)

I don't have enough knowledge in this so in depth tutorial or advise will hugely appreciated.
