In fact, the proftpd.conf file ignores everything in this case. A couple of nights ago, I tried disabling reverse DNS lookups (to speed up logins), and I also increased the timeout to a higher value, but nope This configuration ignores those values completely.
Anyhow, does anyone know (for sure) how to kill anonymous logins on a state_of_the_art Cpanel based host? The server in this case, is not in use yet, but Im getting hundreds of kiddies logging into server1.myserver.com. Although, they cant write to it, I would rather it disabled it for right now.
Another wonderful Cpanel default feature is this: All accounts created with Cpanel have anonymous FTP enabled by default. <shaking my head> this configuration is just full of surprises. Im by no means a fully qualified administrator, but I have hosted 7 large sites for the past 6 years. Up until now, Ive NEVER seen a configuration that allows anonymous FTP by default-- and even better, you cant turn it OFF!!!! in most cases. On my other 3 hosts, you can try accessing by anonymous FTP, but it denies the connection completely.
Sorry for sounding a little angry, but it just seems that every time I go to do something the normal way on this host, its been dummied down, or altered in some way or another by default. Any help on killing anonymous FTP would be appreciated. And, if anyone knows how to get Cpanel to create accounts with anonymous FTP turned off, that would be nice too.
On another note, anonymous FTP Is Disabled on another domain I have configured on this server (now I'm really confused).... I guess its one of those things that works sometimes, and on some domains, but not others? There must be another config file Cpanel is using, and I need to find it. Sorry for the rant.
