The Z.Js meta framework takes a less-is-more approach to development, creator Hussein Kizz said this week.
“So after months of work and learning, the Z.Js framework is the fruit of the efforts to make a more straightforward, step-less Js framework that trades all the shiny stuff for simplicity and low mental overhead on developers,” Kizz wrote. “Are you tired of having to learn and always play catch-up on new framework features just to make a simple app? Try Z.Js!”
Z.Js doesn’t plan to include server-side rendering, he added, but will let the backend do its job while the framework focuses on being a client-side framework for the frontend. The framework is designed to create a modern developer experience that’s scalable but has the power of single page applications and the ability to make “plain HTML, CSS, and JS,” Kizz added.
The post includes a checklist of roadmap features, if developers would like to contribute.
Mesop: Google’s Open Source Python Framework
Mesop is Google’s open source Python framework. It’s currently used by Google for internal tooling and rapid prototyping, according to tech enthusiast Om Kamath.
Kamath writes on Medium, which can be a mixed bag, but it’s worth reading because he compared Mesop to Streamlit, a free and open source Python-based library for building machine learning and data science web apps. He does, however, warn that Google doesn’t even officially support Mesop, so user beware.
He writes there are three main components developers should be aware of when building with Mesop:
State Class, which will act as “your session’s state and provides the ability to share data among different components,” he writes.
Pages and Events, which are the main UI elements of the app.
Styling Elements. It uses CSS styles and Tailwind support is yet to come, he adds.
Overall, he found that Mesop is not ready to replace or compete with Streamlit. Deploying a Mesop application “is not straightforward and requires containerization unless you are deploying it directly to Google Cloud,” he wrote, adding that the documentation was lacking. But despite all that, he found it promising.
“… Mesop has the potential to grow and is receiving updates every day, making it more viable for quick tooling and simple prototypes that work on REST APIs, thanks to its lightweight nature,” he wrote.
New API Management Tool Detects Shadow APIs
A new solution by integration company Boomi will help IT divisions discover, manage and govern all APIs, including identifying shadow APIs of which IT is unaware.
Boomi API Control Plane supports Boomi’s existing API management solution, the company noted, providing a centralized platform for API management that takes a federated, vendor-neutral approach to API management.
The federated approach is key to API management, according to Shari Lava, IDC’s senior research director of AI and Automation.
“Organizations increasingly need federated API management to handle the complex and diverse API landscapes that span multiple environments and platforms,” Lava said in a prepared statement. “A centralized, federated approach can enable consistent governance, security, and monitoring across all APIs, reducing risks and enhancing operational efficiency.”
The new platform incorporates:
Centralized API discovery and provisioning, which discovers an organizations’s APIs from a single location, brings shadow APIs under control, and increases API consumption across the business;
Simplified API management across gateways, which provides a consistent developer experience, insights into API performance and usage, and extends the value of existing on-premises and cloud investments; and
Strengthened API governance, which ensures consistent policies across all platforms, reduces the risk of data breaches, and streamlines security audits, making compliance simpler.
Developers With AI Skills More Likely to Say They’ll Leave Job
A recent survey by SlashData found that a greater number developers with artificial intelligence skills are planning to quit or change jobs within the next 12 months. Nearly 6% of the 3,665 claimed to have experience building and training models — and out of those, 35% say they will seek a new job over the next 12 months. That compares to 27% for all developers.
Anthropic Developer Console Provides Prompt Help
Anthropic Console added new features this week designed to help developers generate, test and evaluate prompts in the console with help from Anthropic’s large language model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
Anthropic introduced the new features because enterprises are stuck in the proof-of-concept or testing phase with AI implementations. Anthropic said the new features, which include automatic test case generation and new output comparison mode, make it easier to generate optimized responses from Claude.
Other new features included in Anthropic Console include:
An evaluate tab, where users can generate, test and evaluate prompts inside the console instead of manually managing tests across spreadsheets or code, the company stated; and
A built-in prompt generator that allows developers to describe a task and have Claude generate a high-quality prompt.
