Don't give me hassle! I'm a newbie!

Me and my friend have just successfully setup a web server for hosting our files, but we have come across a few problems regarding MySQL & PHP. The server is hosted via IIS (I know it sucksDon't give me hassle! I'm a newbie!!). Now the first problem is when we tried using vBulletin on the server it seemed to parse the .php file ok but it didn't link the database properly. Could somebody please point somewhere regarding MySQL setup on Windows 2000 using PHP ect ect?

The specs of the software are:
MySQL 3.23.51
PHP 4.2.1
IIS 5.1

This brings me to another issue been bugging me... IIS or Apache? Now i know that Apache is ALOT better that IIS but is quite hard to get working (well for me it is!Don't give me hassle! I'm a newbie!). The reason being there is a lack of decent step-by-step guides out there on the net!
I mean for dummies like myself! Don't give me hassle! I'm a newbie!

Could someone point me out to some good guides regarding Apache on Windows?

Thanks all very much.

James S.
