looking for ideas: migrating customers
I've been on this board for a while now and I don't remember this ever being dicussed before...When migrating a customer from another provider or between datacenters, what are some of the steps you take to ensure that you have minimal downtime on the website... but more imporantly, e-mail isn't lost. I'm curious to see how providers accomplish this.
Do you modify the zone records before the transition and round-robin the website and "wedge" an MX record for the new server between the primary and secondary so when you shut the primary off the new server receives the mail. I could go on and on... but I would like to see what providers do....
I think this would be a valuable thread to a number of people on the board.
