Shared SSL vs. Private SSL?

What exactly is the difference?

If I'm a web host, I can buy an SSL cert and make it a shared SSL cert so everyone can use it, right? But how.


With someone buying their own SSL cert, you can have it under like order.theirdomain.com or commerce.theirdomain.com or shop.theirdomain.com... etc etc.

With a Shared SSL, what is the difference? how do they use it. Is it less secure than a private SSL?

What are the difference and similarities between the two?
