Apache failed - commenting user out not sufficient - can anybody help?

A user has caused apache to fail twice in the past week. The problem were solved in both cases by commenting out the user in the httpd.conf file. - CPanel.net, however, says that it isn't sufficient just to comment the user out. If the user does not exist - which he doesn't, they say that I should delete the vhost entry for them, rather than just commenting them out.

I don't know where to do that. Does anyone here know what file and entries in that file to look for.

Thanks
John
