security config issues

Hello everyone,
I am a college student who is setting up a linux server-box for ftp, samba, http, and mail transit. It is my feeble attempt to try something new and unique at this school.

I have suucessfully set up apache and sendmail, however nobody except me can connect.

I am currently runniung a standard version of linux and running into trouble when modifying the security principles. I want people on campus to be able to connect via http, ftp, and ssh. FTP and SSH work, however, http times out. I think this has to do with the security settings on my server.

I am using primarily the GUI in linux, as I don't know many terminal commands. Anytime I go into the GUI to modify the security, it says that I am blocking WWW, FTP, SSH, and everything because I am on a HIGH security firewall protection. I would like to know how to modify this using the terminal so that people can connect using these ports. Also, PORT 901, to configure the samba server is blocked. I wish to enable that.

Someone explained to me that it could me the iptables, however I am ALLOWing everything to connect....???

I appreciate any help that can be offered regarding any of these issues.

Thank you,
GoleSYS
