Help in need on FTP

Hi again;

I had already setup Red Hat, squirrelmail, PHPNuke, PHPMyadmin and so on..
the problem is I can't upload my file using FTP by any mean. I run nmap and find that there is no port open for FTP.
Can someone tell me how to open this port or can I do it via SSH under the root level?
