How to secure whole site with SSL

We just received our SSL certificate and installed it on our server. We want to have the entire site secured. So that our visitors can view the site using either URL http://www.oursite.com or https://www.oursite.com. We contacted tech support and they said that we needed to move everthing into the httpsdocs directory form the httpdocs directory.

Do we have to do this? If we did it this way then we will have to keep 2 directories updated with all our files. It seems like there should be an easier way. Any ideas?
