Basic equipment for starting...

This is a newbie question:
If I get into hosting I will colocate so the server part is Ok.
What is the rest hardware/software equipment that I will need in order to start?
For managing my server remotely?
Is my P-III, 256 Megs, 700MHz, 20Gigs, XP laptop sufficient? What software(control panels etc) shall I need to buy?
Is a ADSL connection sufficient for managing?
