IIS: How to Host Multiple Domains

Hi Everybody...
Old news to some. Fresh flowers for others.

It seems to me that an IIS host provider must somehow obtain IP resources to reallocate to customer domains. Other choices that enable the host to configure using a shared single IP have side-effects such as lack of support for SSL and the use of certificates. Using port assignments disallows the use of a domain name but can be useful for hosting certain types of resources.

Thats what I've come to conclude. I really need to confirm that and learn how others have exploited the circumstances.

What types of allocations do hosts find themselves using port assignments and which would they find useful to use host headers?

One circunstance where host headers are useful is for customers that will not need SSL -- but -- when they do need SSL they need to be reconfigured. How much has usinmg this approach eaten into support when having to migrate customers from host headetrs to a unique IP?
