Segmentation Faults??

I'm having some rather severe problems with my new server. Had MySql failures, FTP failures, Apache failures, etc. Server has required a couple of reboots in the last couple of days.

My server was set up and ready for me on 12/29. I just puttered around with it getting familiar with the WHM/Cpanel interface. Set up a couple of minor domains, but didn't do more than just set up 'hello' pages on them and then set up DNS pointers to them. Nothing at all putting any stress on the system, which may have been a mistake. I didn't see any problems cropping up, so on 01/01/03, I decided to move some live domains from my old server on over to the new server.

Everything seemed to transfer over smoothly, but I did have some problems getting the ad server software (AdCycle) running. The problems seemed to stem from the fact that although I was allowed long user names on the old server, the WHM system didn't want that. So I had to change user names for the MySql database connections. This process (AdCycle) runs as a daemon on the server.

Well around this time Apache failed. This seemed rather severe to me, so I rebooted the server. This apparently brought it back and it seemed stable for a while. Then on 01/02, the MySql server died. The tech support guys rebooted it this time. Later on that night I was FTPing a backup of the main MySQL file when FTP died.

Anyway, enough of the details. I have disabled the AdCycle software, as suggested by a couple of people. So far it is apparently running, but segmentation faults are cropping up here and there. Not a lot, but enough to puzzle me.

I don't know, this worries me. Programmers don't put error messages into their code just to waste their time. Is this something I need to REALLY worry about? Enough to insist that it is fixed or drop the server if they can't or won't?

Bear in mind that this AdCycle software has been running on my old server for 10 to 11 months without even a hiccup. I am willing to accept that maybe AdCycle has a problem, but could it be so severe as to kill off all those other processes like that? I have had a couple of people indicate that a memory problem is indicated here.

Like a dummy I thought everything was OK with the short period of puttering around that I did, so I committed my domain name DNS pointers to the new server. I can control them locally from my old server, but if won't do me any good if the domain records on some DNS servers are pointing to the new server. But by this time tomorrow, I have a decision to make.

Anyway, anyone have any input? Should I stick it out or bail out tomorrow when my DNS records should be stable? Right now I have all the banner ads disabled, and this is taking money right out of my pockets. AdCycle has an update, but if this proves to still be a problem, then I can either stick with the new server and then scramble for a new ad server package, or drop back to the old server and hunt around for another server that is capable of running my software 'as is'.

I should have had more faith in the belief in omens, I guess.
