webhosting linux

I am sure everybody realises that the usual linux distro install far too much stuff on a server that you just want to use as a web hosting box. (even when installing "custom server installs" from redhat Suse mandrake etc..)

I have been playing with building linux from source and building a distro more suited to my (i.e webhosting) needs.

any suggestions on what should go in would be welcome : I was thinking of no X server, ext3 filesystem, gcc, vi , etc.. (apache , php etc.. can be installed /built afterwards)

Main design priority is to keep the resulting distro clean and minimalist.

If anybody wants to build their own linux I recommend looking at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ its great stuff and very rewarding to have complete control over "your" OS.

thanks
