where is mail stored?

hey where is mail stored on the drives of a redhat machine?

(redhat 7.3)

i have looked in the home directories of the users but find nothing.

i want to make a little webmail application, and need to know where it is stored?

i would have thought

/user_home_dir/mail

something like that?
