Hack attempt apology
It is a half-hearted convoluted apology, but it made me laugh. We had an idiot trying to hack a site because he did not like their content, then the same idiot mails us complaining about the site. What the hell. I sent him a threatening letter, he denied, then he sent this.30th April, 2003
Dear Sir,
I know I wrote you an email earlier today but that was when I was scared. That is why I didnt tell you the truth and said that I do not have access to the Internet on my home computer. I wish to make amends for my deception by telling you now exactly what happened.
Despite the fact that one of your clients and I have had clashes in the past, I would like to explain that I had no intention of hacking the ##REMOVED## server. I have given up arguing over the copyright issue. As I said earlier, I was wrong in my misunderstanding of certain copyright laws.
This is what happened:
A few weeks ago I downloaded two password crackers (Brutus and Hobo) off the Internet with the intention of setting them on my own email accounts. What I was aiming to do was to check the security of my own accounts. Since downloading these crackers, I have thought that they were going to work on my accounts and knowing that doing anything else on the computer may slow them down I left the room whenever they were running. When I got your email today, I realized that maybe it actually was my crackers that were attempting to get into your server. When I got home from school today, I did not log onto the Internet but went straight to the crackers that I had been using. I checked Brutus and found nothing that could have affected your serve! r. However, when I checked Hobo, I found that instead of working on my Hotmail account, it went directly to www.##REMOVED##.com.
Shown below is a screenshot of what Hobo looked like when I started to use it. (If not visible, please see attached file.)

This is a screenshot showing what Hobo actually did. (If not visible, please see attached file.)
##REMOVED##
As I stated earlier, I left the computer running after I started Hobo. I did not try to hack into the ##REMOVED## server. Im not sure how it happened. I was stunned to find out that you were right and that my computer was attempting to get into your server. I have now removed all crackers and related files from my hard drive.
I am sorry for the difficulty that this has caused you. My father reamed me good because I was using his IP address. It will not happen again.
I hope that this satisfies you. If not, please feel free to contact my father
##REST REMOVED##
I don't know if I should laugh or cry. Worst excuse ever, but at least this has gotten him to stop. He lives in another country so actually getting him in legal trouble would have been a pain, his ISP was slightly helpful, but not to the point of stopping it yet.
