... question about root ...

... hello children of wht ...

... a couple of quick questions for those of you with some free time on your fingers...

1) ...i've been playing with a linux box for about six months now ... host about fifteen domains, all mine, while learning ...

...something seems odd to me, and it seemed odd to a fellow hosting provider... when i ssh as "root", my command prompt looks like this:
root@boxname [~]#

... a cd / changes the prompt to:
root@boxname [/]#

... unless i'm dumber than i thought, which i usually am, even when i'm not, i was under the impression that true root is the second prompt above... if so, i'm not entering as root, even though i'm logging in as "root" with the proper password...

...can anyone set me straight on this...?

2) ...ssh is really terrific (i use a client called ZOC emtec.com ) ... but i want to get a graphical view of my server, so i downloaded secure ftp ( HERE )... it's free, and it's nicely developed...

...the client will not connect to my server using "root" and my password... i installed secure ftp wrapper, but that didn't help either...

...i got as close as "Grant This Session", but was denied access... does anyone have experience with this "method"... putty secure ftp connected fine, but it's not "graphical" in nature...

...thanks anyone and everyone...

...the-muse...
