Permission error :(

Hey all

Here is my problem. I'm trying to install XOOPS on a personal VDS i have. When I run the install, i get to the file stage and get this error:

Saving configuration data..
Could not write into mainfile.php. Please check the file permission and try again.

Now, I went and chmod'd it to 777 in root and it still doenst work!! Permission error :(

Any ideas?
