Installed software

How much user software do web hosting companies typically install on their servers, and how willing are you to install other software if it is requested? By "user software" I mean "software not directly involved in web hosting".

Obviously, this question only applies to companies which provide SSH access.

(This question arises because I've got a cron job which uses perl, MetaPost, LaTex, ghostscript, and peps to generate usage graphs.)
