managed firewalls

i'm about to launch a website (basically a front-end for a database application) on a dedicated server, and i've got some newbie questions...

is "hardware packet filtering" the same thing as "hardware firewall"?

the providers i've been considering are all charging more for "managed firewalls" (e.g. cisco pix) than for the servers themselves - are they worth it?

brat

p.s. the cheaper (!) firewalls ($220) throttle the line to 10Mbps, whereas the more expensive ($450) allow 100Mbps. this makes me unhappy (i'll be serving mp3's from this server).
