Trying to add a usb hard drive to redhat 9 - help!

I have been trying to add a usb hard drive to my linux 9 system (I'm more of a windows guy - trying to learn linux), and haven't had much success.

My book briefly covers usb, and I've created /mnt/usbhd, and I put an entry in fstab, but that doesn't seem to have done the trick. Another thouht is that this disk is formatted for windows, and will probably need to be wiped.

Any help would be appreciated
