Moving dedicated hosts, want to be sure I'm doing it right
This isn't a question per se (except 1 bit), I just want to make sure I do this right, and wanted to run it by the gurus here to make sure I was doing it right. Here's the deal:
I'm a little fed up with the downtime at my current dedicated host, and have decided to move up in the world.
I'm not hosting too many domains, about 14 small sites total. Here's the order of operations as far as I can figure:
1. Backup all site files, databases, etc.
2. Get all set up with my new host, lease server.
3. Login to the web based manager (cPanel, in this case) on my new server via ip address and configure all 14 domains, email addresses, etc.
4. Move up all the old files, restore, databases, etc. Make sure sites are working by ip if possible.
5. (this is the part that sucks/scares me) Change my DNS information on my master domain, set up ns1.mydomainname.com and ns2.mydomainname.com. Then contact the admins of each of the 14 hosted sites and tell them to change their DNS info accordingly. I have to do this right? Because the ip addresses are going to change even if the names stay the same, right?
6. Cancel my account with my old host.
I'd appreciate it if someone more experienced can look over my little check list above and make sure I'm not doing anything stupid.
Thanks!
