DNS zone serial number question

Hello,

I currently have 2 reseller accounts...

I currently run my nameservers on one of those accounts.

I'm looking at moving the nameservers from account a to account b.

I can modify the ns1 and ns2 on the old zone of my domain to point to the IP's given to me by for account b. Then once the changes propogate all should be ok... right? DNS zone serial number question

I am just uncertain about one thing.

What about the zone serial number?

I've read the serial # in a dns zone is used by other dns servers to ascertain whether or not the record is old than it's cached record and if they should update their cache with the new zone.

Now if I point the ns1 and ns2 from server a to the ip's on server b - do I have to ensure the serial number on server b is newer than the serial number on server a?

Any ideas? I'm just worried that if I shift the zone file and find the serial number on the new server is lower than the old one, then external dns servers might ignore the update. Could this happen?
DNS zone serial number question

Once I get this sorted I can then look at a separate VPS and having redundant DNS. DNS zone serial number question
