Bit stuck here:

We are having problems with a server that just loves to crash. We have narrowed down so many problems, and it seems to be that MYSQL processes are replicating.

I am no technical expert- it isn't my position, but I am interested about this one.

What could be causing it, and how could we fix it?

We are hosting a large forums. Now that might ring alarm bells, but this forum was being hosted on a busy 1.7 celeron before. We have a p2.4 running here.

Here's a snippet of the rogue in action:

CPU MEM MYSQL Processes
theirusername theirdomain.com 7.43 27.98 3.6

We also have evidence of MYSQL seemingly replicating itself.

The server load rises, and rises, before peeking, and then :

a) going back to normal load of around 0.4 (this takes around 5 mins)
b) crashing and rebooting
c) crashing and not restarting automatically.

Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
