Server Setup Issues.. ugh

First Linux server and having some issues. First, before I even get the server, I sort through 30 user ids given to me to figure out which I'm even supposed to be using. Server Setup Issues.. ugh

Once the server goes online, I start configuring WHM. It came with an old WHM install so no big deal, just updated WHM and it seemed to be happy. I made some initial server setup including basic DNS. I'm not sure what to do with these default domains 'localhost.zone and mail' or if I even need them. And now, although I'm getting a DNS error: 'ndc: connect failed: connection refused ', the DNS propogates after a couple of days so I can actually setup domains.

I setup a couple of accounts, first a .com, then .net. Account setup seemed to be working fine until I realized that the ip was automatically routing to the .com when I wanted it routing to the .net since the servername was .net. So I go through and remove all of the accounts and reset them up with .net first, then .com. So then the ip resolves to the .net, but under account settings, I can click on .net and it highlights .net on one side and the .com account name on the other and visa versa. ugh.

When I browse around, I find some of the things I requested like Tomcat, Apache:ASP, postgresql, and a few other things weren't installed so I'm thinking 'ok i can install some of these things that are already in WHM'.

I run through a couple of Apache built options and find that easyapache doesn't seem to have an option for postgresql and a few other things I wanted so I try to include them when building it from WHM. I opted to build apache with postgresql, curl, phpsuexec, imap, openssl and the other options easyapache option 5 was supposed 2 install. But it doesn't seem to matter if the box is clicked or not because not all of the components are seeming to install. So now I have a nice, neat little elephant in cpanel for postgresql, but it doesn't work giving me the error 'you have not compiled proper database support into your php installation.' . I thought the apache build was supposed to include that if I clicked the box. :Server Setup Issues.. ugh:

After going through cpanel, I find that most of my webmail, with the exception of maybe squirrelmail, doesn't work. Neomail comes up with headers at the top the first time and if it's refreshed, I just get the perl code without running it. Horde mail errors out with: 'Fatal error: Call to undefined function: _() in /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/config/registry.php on line 86' Server Setup Issues.. ugh

I did have some issues with mysql and autoinstallers not installing correctly. It gave me some kind of error about root not having access to the database or something odd. After an apache rebuild, the autoinstaller seemed to work so now I can create a nifty php forum even though some of my other php applications don't work.

Figuring that the apache builds weren't adding everything, I manually go in and select some rpm's to add but this doesn't seem to help. I tried a few rpm's related to the issues I was having and also some things I wanted support for like imagemagick and netpbm.

I wanted to check the php install, but, unfortunately, phpinfo doesn't seem to want to work now even though other php scripts seem to work. I'm getting an error 500 so I can't even see if everything was installed. Server Setup Issues.. ugh

I eventually get Tomcat and Apache::ASP installed and a nifty link shows up in WHM for servlets. No issues there yet because I haven't even had time to click the servlets button due to the other issues.

I've been looking into hiring admin support in addition to the semi-management provided, but as soon as I mention the possibility of hosting adult sites, most of these companies refuse to support the server. One of the few companies who said they would support it is on the other side of the world and doesn't provide a contact phone number. Another said they would support a windows server I was also looking into but never mentioned anything about the linux server.

I'm also having other support issues. After I sign up with 2checkout, they now question my account because I don't have the site remodeled and online yet so they can't see the merchandise I'd be selling. I wanted the merchant links before publishing the site, but I went ahead threw up a rough draft of the site last night on the .com to make them happy even though it's not complete and doesn't have the merchant links in it yet.

It's been nearly a week and I'm still working on getting everything setup the way I want. Server Setup Issues.. ugh

Is this normal with moving from reseller to host and setting everything up? Server Setup Issues.. ugh Any ideas or help on any of these issues? I need to get these resolved before I even dare to put customers on the server.
