CPanel/WHM/REDHat: kernel not updated by up2date means OS reinstall ?
These are the steps I followed
1) under SSH, I ran "up2date --nox -f kernel" :
it was useless and I got "stdin: is not a tty" but after reboot, no update
then ..
2) I run "up2date --configure" and I made sure item 8 (retrieve only) is set to yes
item 24 (pkgskiplist) is blank and save the changes.

3) I run "up2date -u"
4) I change to "cd /var/spool/up2date" and run "rpm -ihv ker*"
5) /etc/grub.conf was already default=0
6) Reboot
7) but still keep "You are running an insecure kernel (2.4.18-19.7.x). You should upgrade to a newer version as soon as possible to avoid your system being compromised. "
8)then I asked my NOC to take care of this and the answer was
"Something funny is going on with grub. The grub screen looks nothing like the grub.conf file says it should. On the grub screen only two kernels appear and one of them is not in the grub.conf file. I looked around the system to try to find where grub is picking up the strange configuration from but can't find it.
Right now you are booting into 18-19.7.x kernel.
Sorry but I don't know what is wrong. To fix it I can only offer an OS reinstall.

Currently you are running 18-19.7.x. You do have 20-20.7 installed on your system and your grub.conf file is setup correctly but when grub runs it isn't displaying that information.

to redo your os you would need to add a 3rd drive (-my note: we have two disks on RAID), then do the cpanel backups to that drive. then redo os, then restore from cpanel backups - yes there would be a good amount of downtime involved. If you were to get hacked you would lose all data too just so you know.
If you want you can just leave things as they are right now and not worry about upgrading the kernel"
My NOC is skilled but I'm a little worried about this. Did you face anything similar? Any suggestion?
