Backup software and NAS
We plan to buy an IBM TotalStorage NAS server. I wanted to know how these NAS servers are set up. Are they simply connected to the other servers by network? Will my other servers recognise this NAS server as any other server with shared drives? Or is it recognised as a media device or something else?
Also, I wanted to buy software that could make backups of customer files to this NAS server. I run both linux and windows servers so it should be multiplatform. The NAS server itself is powered by an OS that is similar to Windows 2000 (that is what the manual says). Would this backup software have to be deployed on the NAS server as well or simply on my web servers?
