Please explain...

Well, i am new to dedicated hosting. I recently set up a server at the planet and am fighting my way through all the intricacies of server management. If someone can please explain the following, it would help me a great deal.

WHM - hostname: What exactly is this? For example, my machine name is hosting.mydomain.com, where mydomain.com is my main domain on the server as is also my name server (ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com). In WHM, when i set hostname to hosting.mydomain.com, i get the following error when i log out and log back in: "The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (hosting.mydomain.com). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down.". I then continue to add an A entry under the mydomain.com DNS zone - hosting, 14400, A, 10.0.0.2 (the server has a firewall and 10.0.0.2 is mapped to the external address. The maping works as i am able to access the actual website under mydomain.com). For the records, i also tried the actual external address instead of 10.0.0.2, but that produces the same results. So the A entry is there, but when i log our and back into WHM, i get the same error.
What exactly am i doing wrong?

WHM - name servers. I have ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com set up and registered at the registrar of mydomain.com. In WHM i have 2 A entries (ns1, 14400, A, 10.0.0.5 and ns2, 14400, A, 10.0.0.6) for the DNS zone mydomain.com. All mappings are correct and work fine as i am told by the planet. The named service is running (and has been restarted a few times by the way). Still, when i create a new account for a domain name that has ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com as the name servers (yes, this was done a few days ago and is in the main registry, etc.). WHen i try to check the new account - myotherdomain.com, the report states that it can see the name servers, the name servers resolve to the correct IPs, but the IPs do not return SOA for myotherdomain.com. What is the problem?

Can someone please figure this out?

Thank you.
