Transfer of hosted e-mail
Hello WHT.
I have a domain my family uses for E-MAIL ONLY. It's hosted on a Linux system with a CPANEL interface.
I am planning to transfer this said domain to a new host soon, once I find a nice plan.
My idea of the transfer goes like this:
- Upon signing-up with the new host, I re-create the mailboxes of my family members; and wait for the domain to resolve;
- Meanwhile, I give them (the e-mail users) the IP/username combination of the old host so they can check their mails while we wait for the propagation to the new host;
- Since I do not know my users' passwords, I assign them new ones for them to change later on their own time.
My questions:
1. Is there an EASIER way for me to recreate their accounts without my users having to start all over (meaning, setting-up their mail options, changing the initial passwords I assign to them after recreating the account, etc.?)
2. While the propagation process happens, will there be any LOST mails along the way? Or any undelivered mail to the new host will simply be forwarded to the previous host?
I did searches but those coming up were about resellers moving clients from one server to another, not the specific scenario of one domain name with multiple e-mail users.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.
