In summary, linux 2.6 kernel will pretty much smack around ANY BSD in terms of network performance, memory mapping, etc.
FreeBSD is the best of the BSDs.
Linux 2.4 is so-so.
OpenBSD is horrendous and should not be used for ANY network services.
