IP Migration

Hello everyone,

Any one of you who has an in-house setup and experience with smooth IP migration?

We are going to switch our backbone provider in about 45 days from now, which will result in change of IP addresses.

Since the physical location of the servers will not change we are thinking to take the following steps to avoid down time:

1) Add additional NIC cards to the servers and bind them with the new IPs.

2) Then bind all services with the new IPs, leaving in place the binding with old IPs. (i.e. making all services available from both new and old IPs at one time.)

3) Change our nameserver IPs with domain name registrar.

4) Give about 72 hours for new IPs to propagate.

5) Remove binding for old IPs

This will, in my estimation, avoid any downtime due to DNS propagation.

What do you think? is it feasible?

Any response to this will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

With regards,
