cPanel backup off; resorting to FTP

I'm moving an account used for e-mail only. Problem? CPanel Backup is turned-off by my host. Support went AWOL for a month now although servers are running, so they can't be of any help.

Here's what I did:

a. I've downloaded everything via FTP from the home directory of my account from Host A.

b. Created an account in my other provider, Host B.

c. Uploaded the contents of account from Host A to Host B via FTP also.

A few questions before I continue:

1. For the FTP uploads, are there ASCII/binary issues to be considered regarding e-mail files?

2. Before I point the nameservers to Host B, I want to ask if I overlooked anything else along the way.

3. Also, downtime is expected for the propagation. Since Host A support went *poof*, is there anything I can do on my own in WHM that would prevent/minimize downtime while the domain's resolution to Host B is underway?
