big problems with gcc
im running gedhat 8 and currently gcc is quite messed upi cant compile my own files because it gives errors like iostream not found
anyway, im trying to upgrade gcc, but from source
now what im wondering is this
if i just run configure will it install to /usr/bin/gcc /usr/lib/gcc etc or /usr/bin/gcc-version /usr/lib/gcc-version
etc etc
i have read the installation files and it makes absolutly no sense to me. GCC seems to be a hard thing to upgrade. Not only am i gunna have problems getting this new one on, but when i remove the old rpm its gunna mess up any files using the old libs and stuff isn't it?
so what am i meant to do?
i dont understand how i am meant to upgrade gcc from source without messing up the system even more than its messed up now
plus it seems i have to upgrade a million other things the libstdc, glibc, etc
i can see me totally ruining my server

and no i dont wanna upgrade using rpms cos thats what got the system in the mess that its in now
