bandwidth monthly transfer math
Hey all, I just had this topic posted in a different BB...whats your guys' opinion on this?First Post............................................................
How would one figure bandwidth monthly transfer? Lets say I have a T1 line 1.5 up and 1.5 down and I want to figure what TOTAL bandwidth MAXIMUM this line would transfer a month. I would ASSUME that it would work like this, but its just a guess.
1.54Mb/s x 60seconds x 60minutes x 24hours x 30days = 3991.68 GB TOTAL MAXIMUM BANDWIDTH PER MONTH.
Also, assuming nothing is perfect I would think about 90% actual throughput. 3991.68 x 90% = 3592.51GB
Is this the correct math or am I WAY off...this is just what I would guess if I had to.

it's 1.5 megabit not megabyte.
So divide your final answer by 8

Ok, i see...so it actually ends up being about 450Gb per month. Well now I am really confused!!!! How does a host sell a hosting account with 500Gb of monthly tranfer for 10 or 20 bucks a month? A T1 line might cost about 500 bucks a month!! And that is just to BIG of a gamble to assume the user won't use all of their bandwidth limit...especially when you have 100 customers or so!! I'm definitely missing something here...there is no possible way this can be correct.
