Nameservers: Lack of understanding

I signed up with a hosting company reseller account and ended up with two nameserver ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com.

I then went to my registrar and pointed my domain to the new name servers.

I then went to another hosting company to get a reseller account. Again I requested the same name servers.

I then went back to the first hosting company and cancelled my account. I am assuming my name servers with them will be dropped.

How will this affect my domain name? Will it automatically fall over to the new host in the next couple of days?
