FreeBSD & Cpanel probs

Greetings-
I hope s.o can help me out w/ this. I got this error msg when I create a new account in WHM.
DBI connect('mysql:localhost','root',...) failed: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server. Consider upgrading MySQL client at /usr/local/cpanel/Cpanel/Mysql.pm line 42

Also when a user uses phpmyadmin, he gets "access denied". He can only manage his db within Cpanel.
