Account Backups - What do you do?
Basically, running these backups nightly the way that WHM does is just horrible on servers with a large number of accounts and even worse depending on how the disk space is used on the accounts. If nothing else, this has brought about some wonderful hard drive problems/failures.
About the only advantage of what we're doing now over RAID-1 would be the ability to retrieve previous data if something is accidentally deleted/modified. But should this really be our responsibility?
One big disadvantage to this is without another drive to mirror it in RAID-1 you have no immediate solution if the main drive were to just fail outright (which has happened twice for us). With simply mirrored drives it would be a piece of cake to replace one as compared to what we have to do now.
I guess I would kind of like to hear the opinions and positions of other current, preferably mid-size to large, hosts. Maybe this is just me wanting to take the easy way out, I don't know
