just recieved my first servermatrix box... weird issue

I just received my first servermatrix box and something appears to be wrong with their setup. Here is the problem:

I've started setting up my new server and there's definitely something wrong. My connection to the server appears to lag/stall momentarily whenever I attempt to do anything from the command line.

When I try to FTP files to the server, these also stall after 16,384 bytes have been transferred. Sometimes they do resume for a few bytes, most times the file transfer just errors out.... I repeat the process and the same thing happens.

I've tried uploading the same files to my other servers located on different networks and there are no problems whatsoever.

Any ideas what would cause this? just recieved my first servermatrix box... weird issue I've submitted a trouble ticket so hopefully one of their techs will look into this asap. I'd appreciate if anyone could suggest any possible solutions so maybe I could solve this one myself without having to wait for them though.
