Ethernet Taps

Ok, this might sound stupid, but why are ethernet taps so expensive? From what I've seen all they do is replicate an incomming single into two different outgoing singles.

Isnt that what a $5 hub does? An incomming signale gets replicated out several other ports?

My guess is the only difference is that the second port that the data gets replicated to does not receive data (which is good). Other then that, whats the justification for a slightly modified hub costing like $400?

Ohh, I forgot, on some if the power goes out then data will continue to flow, but I cant see that costing $395.

Could it be that its just not a major market? They dont sell mass quantities, so they cost more?

Any insights?

Thanks,
