Gateway & Proxy
I was wondering if anyone would care to explain what these are in a little detail. I have not just come in here asking, I have done previous research but get bad links. For gateway I have summed the following up:A gateway allows for an entrance between two networks, like a LAN to a WAN (My network to the Internet). A gateway converts packets from the "WAN" to an understandable format so that the "LAN" can understand/read the packets?
So it translates packets from one protocol to another?
Is that all there is to it? From that above information I get that we would not be able to use the Internet without, nor would we be able to able to connect to other networks that are not using the same protocols as ares?
Proxy I cannot find.
