perl and mod_perl and apache install problems
Well that was fun. Downloaded MOD_PERL WIN 32 self extractor (after zip failed) and it tore up a good 100+ megs off my drive (or more) downloaded a bunch of things I am never going to use (and can't find to delete them) hosed my apache installation that worked before and is now crippled and then died in the middle of the installation... is this some Unix developer's idea of 'how to destroy an MS-2000 box AND waste an hour of the admin's time' all rolled into one?Ok, assuming SOMEBODY out there has completed the
install of mod_perl on an apache 2 box or SOMEBODY just uses good old Perl (I wonder if THAT still works on my machine), can anybody tell me how I can get Perl to work with Apache? Simple scripts that took me years to develop and if they don't fly with Apache I am IIS bound in about two seconds. That mod_perl install was, (uh, compared to software I've written), a roller-coaster-ride with a lot of bumps, grinds and in the end, it flew off the track and crashed and burned...twice. Really; you Unix guys gotta work on your interfaces and this is coming from an old DOS/Mainframe head with 25 years exp. Wha wha what was that install I was run over by. I feel like a drunk virgin in a mosh pit.
So, anyone got any ideas because the docs at the mod_perl site aren't much better, the tutorials start out with some huge 800,000 hits per hour installation (a great way to make a novice to mod_perl leave your site screaming) and since it's so new I doubt many folks have much experience with it.
Simple: make perl answer cgi requests from html like it did on my hosted server; is that brain surgery?
Thank you in advance because if you have read this, you have probably done it and if you did it and lived to tell about it they ought to build you a monument in D.C.
