subnet and subnet masks
Hey all, I have worked out, whether it is correct or not is a different questions but, I have in my head that a subnet is:Subnet is short for subnetwork, it is used to separate parts of networks, for example you could have a large network, 100 computers, with 4 subnets, dividing the network into 4 parts.
A subnet is used to break networks into smaller parts allowing for easier routing of data, it is a logical way of segmenting a network. Data is sent to a host determined on the subnet.
If the host is within the subnet of the host sending the data, it will be sent directly, otherwise it will be sent to the appropriate subnet and then the host will gather it.
Am I correct, is there anything else I should know or is that exactly what it is and does?
Whats a subnet mask exactly, is that what determines the subnet the host is on?
Why are they so important, whats the point of subnets then? Why not use a bridge as it segments networks.
