Strange Ownership (updatedb => slocate)
Here is something I've never seen before.Ran updatedb on my RHE box today and got this error.
warning: updatedb: Could not find the group: slocate in the /etc/group file.
fatal error: This is a result of the group missing or a corrupted group file.
OK... So I look in /usr/bin and the ownership group of 'updatedb -> slocate" and 'slocate' are '21' (everything else is root & I don't have '21' in the wheel group).
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root 21 7 Dec 6 01:58 updatedb -> slocate*
Checked the group file in /etc/group and the ownership group is root.
I guess the question I have is does anyone know how or why the ownership of the above would be set to '21' and should I set them to 'root' to solve my problem? Also, an update for slocate came in last night. I first saw the error in my logs this A.M. after the daily cron.
Thanks for any input.
