Bridges:

Hey guys

I have been readin up on bridges - w00t

I have 4 quick queries I was wondering if you could answer them for me? They are as followed:

When Bridge B2 received a response from host (Y) stating it is on port 2, does bridge B2 then send a response to bridge B1 stating that host (Y) is done that port, therefore port 2?
http://www.scit.wlv.ac.uk/~jphb/comms/bridges.html is a link the what I am regarding as in B1 and Y etc.

Secondly, I was wondering if bridges increase security of LANS/segments, the reason why I say this is, if bridges keep out unneeded traffic and keeps local traffic local, doesn’t this mean that no host will receive information it does not need to receive (Apart from when the bridge is initially learning what hosts are at what ports). This means hackers cannot listen on the network and listen to traffic they are not supposed to listen to?

Finally, due to less traffic through the network, it lowers the collision domain/collisions that occur; does it also speed up the network as the lines are not being used for unnecessary traffic?

Also once a bridge knows what is down a certain port, for example just one host, when a request to find out where another certain host is, will it disregard the port that it already knows where it is (i.e. not send the frame/packet down that port)

Also if anyone has the faintest about the loop bridge network thing feel free to explain why it repeats lol

Regards

DislexiK
