HD Performance
Hello,I ran hdparm -t /dev/(s/h)da on my servers to test the harddrive performance...
All harddrives are (IDE) Seagate Barracuda 40G (or more) 7200RPM drives
On the systems with a 3ware 7000-2 RAID card, performance was around 20-26MB/sec
On drives with just 1 drive (no raid) performance was like 10-16MB/sec
The above results were from machines at our colo.
However, on a RAID server (IDE drives) with the same 3ware card that is hosted by The Planet (for a client of ours) gets results of 45MB/Sec
Is there something I'm missing? - What's the average HD performance I can expect
Also note - all the machines in our colo that we ran these tests on are live production machines handling email/web/dns/ftp/mailscanner/spamassassin etc... (all with a normal load (less than 1)
Also - the machine at The Planet which gets 45MB/sec is a Dual Xeon with Hyperthreading (looks like 4)
The rest of the machines at our colo or either single or dual P3
